actionscript3 isometric library (v1/v2)

as3isolib & flash player 10

It’s time to start thinking about updating as3isolib to utilize flash player 10’s advancements.  Looking at the penetration stats for the various player versions, fp10 is almost at 75% in almost every category.  And these stats are from March 2009 – link

With that said, I will be making some changes to the SVN repos.  You will start to notice that trunk will have two main folders: fp9 and fp10.  For The same folder structure that you are used to will be found throughout the following folders.  Keep in mind that fp10 source will be empty until it is completely merged over.

In order to switch your project over to the correct SVN folder, simply do the following in Eclipse (assuming you are using Subclipse):

  1. right click on your project in the navigator view
  2. in the menu find team => switch to another branch/tag/revision
  3. enter https://as3isolib.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/fp9 in the “to URL” field

I won’t go as far as to say it’s for sissies but I will say given the nature of the library, it would get some substantial performance gains from the FP10 APIs especially with regards to the Vector class. Currently the library makes extensive use of Arrays. I haven’t seen any benchmarking of Vectors vs. Arrays but I would assume that the gain would be significant in some degree otherwise the API wouldn’t exist.
